Description:

It's funny how things work out sometimes, when it comes to how one can cross paths with certain people... who can really make a difference in your life.  Eric Grigg is just such a guy.

In a jam, I hired a local fella who had been laid off from his job of nearly 20 years to help out here at the nursery.  He jumped in during lining season (Fall, and of the most laborious times without fail), and I was AMAZED with not only how quick and precise he was... but at his ability to keep everyone in such a great mood!  His outlook on life is one I sincerely admire... a true "southern gentleman", with a style and grace that's incredibly charismatic.  Needless to say, Eric and I have become true friends over the past several years.

When selling a few of the "back 40", there was no avoiding spending time at the local tax office, sorting through an immense pile of paperwork.  There was a certain gal there however, that really went out of her way to help me out!  After spending days on end with her, and the deal was finally "done"... I had already forced her to become accustomed to huge bear hugs of appreciation for all her help!  Not something she was used to (working in a tax office, after all), it didn't take long for her to start appreciating... that she was indeed, appreciated!  It wasn't until the very last day, that I figured out that this wonderful and sweet gal, Penny... was Eric's wife.

I picked this flower to name for Penny, because it can be the small things in life... that really matter.  This flower may not be the biggest out there... but it's certainly one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.  Like Penny, she may not be out there to impress a Texas land baron... but will fill your heart (and garden!) with an outpouring of intense and loyal sincerity.  Of course, I've been teasing Eric by telling him I picked it because it was tough as nails and hardy as stone (as Penny must be, to put up with HIM!)... so mum's the word on the truth!  ;-)
