Description: When I first moved here to Polkville, it was hard not to notice one of my new
neighbors had a beautiful rose garden in front of her home... I most certainly
was happy to see that I had a potential new gardenin' friend so nearby!
Indeed, as soon as I was able, I made a beeline over to the gal's house... and
knocked on her door. When she answered, I told her who I was and
immediately asked her if she liked daylilies. Somewhat bedazzled by my
slightly different attitude, she said "of course!". I said "good thing!",
and immediately shoved 2 huge bags of daylilies at her... and we've been great
friends ever since. Her name, is Nancy Queen.
Turned out (much to my
amazement) that the vast majority of Nancy's rose collection was actually
behind her house... and it was immense! She was formerly a President
of a large rose society, and her gardens were filled to the brim with stunning
color and form of her beloved genera. I have a tendency, truth be told, to
truly admire a skill that I have not an inkling of (I can kill just about any
rose in existence). Nancy's garden prowess doesn't stop with roses and
perennials though... her 2 acre vegetable garden is amazing! Even more
amazing, is that she tends all this by herself... and past retirement, this
should give you at least a good picture of the fact that this is one
country gal to be reckoned with! ;-)
Honestly, Nancy herself is
truly "a rose"... so nice, unassuming, and giving. I'm so happy to be able
to have the opportunity to name a flower in her honor, even if it pales in
comparison to the honor it has been to become her friend! This
magnificently saturated and incredibly clear rose daylily has the tendency to
fold its petals, giving it a very stylish and graceful appearance.
Dignified and stately, the form is relentlessly stunning... no matter what
nature can think of to throw at it. Hardy dormant foliage is well founded
and secure... indeed, it's just unstoppable! A wonderful new plant, named
for a most wonderful gal.
