Description: Kevin Walek (our illustrious and beloved former President of the American
Hemerocallis Society) and I were going down memory lane in conversation, when
the subject of Carlos Castenada's books about the "teachings of Don Juan" came
up. A series of books that dealt with spiritual enlightenment from the
70's, it turned out that we were both quite influence by them! Kevin
remembered a passage from one ("A Separate Reality"), where Don Juan's friend
Don Genaro is able to leap a waterfall with only the aid of supernatural (and
spiritual) power. Quite climactic, for sure... and a perfect name, for
this daylily! Thanks, Kevin!
This serenely fresh and cascading daylily is as pure and clean as one could
hope for... virtually breathing freshness into your very soul! Opening
with a quite distinctive green cast to its glow, the self takes on a very vivid
(yet light) lemon yellow over cream during the course of the day. This is
insured, no doubt, by the sparkling and very heavy veining that becomes even
more distinctive during the day. The form is quite relaxing, and color so
serene... it really is quite stunning.
The overall form of the plant habit is quite unique too, as the look of the
foliage is undoubtedly "vasal". Upward growing foliage rarely bends, and
together with the beautifully cascading flowers, gives it quite an Asian look in
nature... as one might expect from a botanical drawing, or in an actual vase.
The blue-green dormant foliage adds interest well into the season as well, which
is a nice asset when not yet in bloom... truly an asset to the garden, and soul!
