The

Slightly Different Times

Fall, 2009

Hope you ALL had a GREAT bloom season this year!

It sure was wonderful here, with the very unique addition of rainfall... the "kids" just loved it!

Mom's been havin' fun this year too... we had a big bash for her 80th Birthday in June!

Indeed, the daylily bloom season has waned now... but there's still parts of the garden that are lookin' pretty good!...

Things are NEVER boring around these "slightly different" acres though... look what came down our Myrtle-lined driveway in late August!

Too cool!...

... Indeed, another "slightly different" wedding here, and this time for almost 300!

The barn sure looks great for the party, 'eh?...

The Bride and Groom sure had a great time, for sure!...

And visitors too!  Sure was great to have Bobbie & Ron Gratz (of OH) stop in for a little ride on the swing!...

Folks from all over came this year... though not all are treated "equal", I must admit.  Jill Furler (of Stroudsburg, PA) only wanted cheap general cultivars... so this is where I sent her!...

Meanwhile, Jane Cundiff (of Floyd, VA) wanted my OWN slightly different hybrids,

and got appropriate treatment from my Sis Christie!...

Enough fun though... time to get to lining out the new intro's!  My resident flock of turkeys seems to have scoped out a spot where the work should commence ...

They were right! All the new 2010 introductions seem to love their new spot, just 2 weeks after planting there!...

We're all VERY excited about these new hotties, too!  Talk is cheap though... so lets havva look at just a few of them, 'eh?!

6-270A is a FLAMING coral pink, over 30" tall, and is branched to beat the band... and a dormant!...

6-170 is the most ornate orange I've bred (and I have a LOT of 'em)...

Really neat design, and reverse pleat on the petals.  Stunning!...

Here's something that's DEFINITELY "slightly different"... 6-300!

A small-flowered unusual form with nearly 90% of petals "cresting" like this, and LOTS of 'em to boot!...

Here's one I've been waiting to intro since first having it mature a few years ago... 6-283.  STUNNING plant, on hugely branched and budded scapes to 32"...

Naturally, all these (and many more) will have names assigned... just waiting on the reservation confirmation, and they'll all be on the site!  Keep your eyes peeled for 'em!  ;-)

The off-season speaking schedule is shaping up incredibly well this year, too.  Seems folks really do like the hardy "kids"!  I'm very excited to be speaking at the Can-Am Fall Classic in Toronto... the Fall Banquets for the Madison, WI and Baltimore, MD daylily clubs... the Region 2 Winter Symposium in Cincinnati... and the Spring Banquets for the New England (Boston, MA), Capital (D.C.), and Hudson-Adirondack clubs as well!  Any chance of meeting some of you there?!  I sure hope so!

Back to work with me... our new performing arts theatre is opening here in Shelby in November (founding member of the committee to get it done), and lots to get done!

Hope you ALL have a very safe and WONDERFUL Fall season!!!

Now... go get dirty!!!

Stay well... and keep loving ALL things "slightly different"!

You're friendly enabler...

Paul
